Vintage Chair Makeover

Ok, I saw this chair on CL and knew I had to have it.  There was so much potential waiting to be discovered.  I originally planned on reupholstering and painting it.  However, when I picked it up the fabric was in great shape and looked much better in person.

Here is a before of the chair.  Isn't he a cutie :) my little model.

The wood was pretty scuffed up and I thought the wood plus the fabric is what dated the chair.  It was a pretty easy update with tons of character.  First I covered most of the wood with ASCP ( Annie Sloan Chalk Paint)  in Graphite.  It didn't have to be perfect because I knew I was going to paint over it.  Next I painted ASCP in Old White.  I had to use a small brush for this step because of the fabric, I didn't want paint on it.  Once the paint was all dry I used an old rag and lightly brushed Old Walnut Gel stain over most of the chair giving it an aged look.  At this point someone might look at the chair and think it was butchered, it doesn't look great, but it will :)  Don't give up hope!!  A fine grit sandpaper and some elbow grease and The chair is almost finished.  The sandpaper helps to blend the stain with the paint and makes it look like it has been painted years ago.  Just what I wanted!  Once sanded the last step is to wax and sit back and admire your piece.  I love it !! don't you?
